As part of my third-year sculpture final project, I had to choose a theme for a creation. I chose the Cinderella story. The plan was to build Cinderella's carriage before the fairy enchants it. Meaning the carriage is made of a pumpkin, the horses are rats, and the carriage driver is a cricket. The inspiration for creating the rat family came from the Cinderella story.
Following the dialogue that developed between me and the instructor after I built the first rat, I decided to fill the space with rats. A space filled with rats usually brings up negative associations of fear and filth. In contrast, this rat family is cute and amusing. Each one of them has an independent personality that is expressed through a different pose.
